Eviction Succesfully Resisted in Bristol

An attempted illegal eviction occurred this afternoon at Unity Home, number 87 Ashley Road, St Pauls, Bristol. IT WAS RESISTED
Ownership of the house is claimed by Places for People, Britain’s largest housing association. Its chief executive, David Cowans, topped the list of richest “social” housing providers with a salary of £257,928 in 2007 (Every single penny on the backs of the poor). Instead of providing adequate social housing they work for corporate gain and through speculation with our money are feeling the pinch of the property market crash. This is a social housing provider playing with public money.

Multimillion Pound Squat

Squatters constitute major threat to Guyana’s international airport

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (GINA): The Guyana government said it has acted resolutely to confront risks associated with the presence of squatters at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) which constitutes major threats to the airport and its operations.

This announcement was made by acting President Samuel Hinds, who criticized the opposition party Alliance for Change (AFC) for “attempting to chastise the administration for its interventions.”

Guyana’s acting president Samuel Hinds Hinds in a statement said government’s actions were taken in wake of the discovery of the hideout for dangerous criminals in the neighbouring area, theft and recovery of stolen equipment from the airport and the burgeoning numbers of illegal structures in the area.

“The presence and illegal actions of squatters constitute major threats to the airport and its operations in accordance with international norms of aviation safety. Moreover, the status of the airport for international aviation transport risks being downgraded with obvious consequences to Guyana, Guyanese and sectors that depend on international air transport,” the acting President said.

Security of the airport, Hinds said, is a priority of the administration and the squatters there will be treated in accordance with well established norms of the administration.

He added that there can be no basis to inveigle the administration on the issue of squatting since the administration has impressive credentials in providing housing, regularizing squatter settlements and controlling squatting.
