Squatting Army brigade told to vacate camp

THE Philippine Army brigade responsible for the conduct of internal security operations in the Calabarzon region has been asked to vacate a 2-hectare private property it has been “squatting” on for some eight years now for its brigade headquarters.

Col. Leo Baladad, 202nd “Unifier” brigade chief, said they already got formal notice from the family of “Don” Terio Reyes to find another place as the owners now plan to use the property for business purposes.

“Although verbally, we were informed that we can still use the land for some time more but what is clear is that we cannot stay much longer than we wanted.

The Philippine Army was allowed by the Reyes family to use the property located in Bgy. Antipolo, Rizal, Laguna, back when current Southern Luzon (Solcom) commanding general Lt. Gen. Roland Detabali, was still the 202nd Brigade commander.

The area was deemed suitable for military purpose as it borders with San Pablo City.

Meanwhile, Baladad said they would have to share camp with the 1st Infantry Battalion, inside a 3-hectare government land titled to the National Power Corporation (Napocor) in the town of Cavinti.
