Squatters protest to protect the Foundry in Shoreditch from demolition

Protesters barricaded the doors of a popular Shoreditch arts venue on Monday morning (June 28) in a desperate bid to stop it being demolished to make way for a luxury hotel.

Squatters facing eviction from the Foundry in Great Eastern Street rallied in the early hours to defend the former bar and exhibition space that has hosted shows by Pete Doherty and Kate Nash.

Foundry closure protestors face forced eviction

A group of squatters who have been occupying former Shoreditch venue the Foundry in protest at its scheduled demolition have been ordered to leave the premises.
The unauthorised occupants, who have been using the Great Eastern Street building for around two weeks, since its final closure, have been issued with a court order that gives them two days to vacate the premises.
If they fail to comply, authorities have threatened a forced eviction.

Kota Kinabalu to be squatter free by 2015, says mayor

The city of Kota Kinabalu is expected to be squatter-free by 2015, Mayor Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim said today.

He said that to achieve the goal, the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) was formulating strategies to rid the city of squatters which included involvement in the housing industry in addition to activities by state government agencies.
